De-pinning ECU Plugs

Before you begin…
This can be frustrating until you get the hang of it.  Take your time, and be patient.

For black plugs, B and C

1: Pull the black harness from the ECU, making sure not to pull on any of the wires.  *This applies to both black ECU plugs*.

2: With a pick or other type of pointed tool, gently push in the sides of the white plastic wire holder “comb”.

3: After both sides are pushed in, it may be pulled out.

4: You will notice three holes, two small and a larger one in the middle of the pins.  Stick a very small flat head precision screwdriver (needle, pick, or straightened paperclip may be used) into the larger middle hole.* Note* you will have to push it in pretty far about 1 inch.

5: Push the screwdriver toward the pin you are trying to extract.

This is what you will be doing with the tool inside the plug, gently pushing the tab in to release it.

The tab.  You want to be careful not to damage it, since you’ll need it to hold the pin in place when you reinsert it.  It will probably get alittle bent up, but it can be straightened back out.

the tab clips onto a bar that runs the length of the plug that holds the pins in place.
insert the tool so it goes on either side of the bar.

6: As you are pushing towards the pin gently pull on the back of the wire to remove.  Do not force it, if it isn't coming out wiggle the screw driver a little.  Once it is released, it will come out VERY easily.

7: Do the same to the wire you wish to switch it with.

8: The new pin will snap into place so you don't need the screw driver after you have pulled it.

9: Replace the white plastic wire holder in the reverse of removal.

10: Reinsert the plug into the ECU.

For white plug, A

The A plug works much the same way, but is easier.

1: This is the easiest of the ECU plugs to rewire.  Pull from the ECU being careful not to pull on the wires

2: If you look at the face of the plug you will see some tabs underneath the ECU pins.

3: With a small precision flat blade screw driver, push down on the tap of the pin you wish to remove.

4: As you push down on the tab, gently pull the back of the wire.  It will pull out VERY easily so don't force it.  If it isn't coming out, wiggle the screw driver a bit.  The tab isn’t part of the pin, like the black plugs. It is part of the plastic plug, so you don’t have to worry as much about damaging it.

5: Do the same with the wire you wish to switch with.

6: The tab will snap back into place so replace it with the correct wire or add a new wire.

7: Reinsert the plug into the ECU.
